Tonight (October 6, 2003), an IDF soldier was killed during IDF operational activity along the Israel-Lebanon border (south of the Fatma Gate). The family of the solder has been notified. The soldier was killed by light weapons fire originating from Lebanese territory. IDF forces returned fire.

The above-mentioned attack is a continuation of ongoing terrorist activities encouraged and operated by the government of Lebanon, which is supported by Syria.

Israel has complied entirely with UNSC Resolution 425, and the U.N. fully recognizes that the IDF has completely exited southern Lebanon. However, Syria and Lebanon continue to encourage and operate terrorist activity against Israel.
