Follow initiated operations by IDF forces in the area of the “Traffic Light” Junction in central Bethlehem, an IDF tank fired shots towards suspicious areas. One of the places towards which shots were fired was the rooftop of the Bethlehem University and as a result a statue atop the building was damaged.

The IDF diligently avoids firing towards important holy sites, and the soldiers were briefed before the aforementioned operation. In addition, maps were distributed to the forces operating in the city, maps that include the locations of holy sites, no-shooting zones, and restricted areas.

The university building was listed on the maps, however it must be mentioned that from the university itself and from its surrounding area shots have been fired numerous times this last week towards IDF forces.

The IDF expresses regret for the incident. The brigade commander will take disciplinary measures.
