IDF (Zahal) information security department issued a letter to all IDF (Zahal) soldiers and commanders yesterday (Tuesday, May 8), warning about applications that utilize information stored on their cell phones – particularly those that share information without the user’s authorization.
The letter comes in response to concerns about the potential for leaks of sensitive information on senior officers and classified units who can be contacted on their personal phones. “In the age of smart phones, it is important to be alert to the security threat that some applications pose to the IDF (Zahal),” warned the information security establishment.
According to a senior source, “many applications can lead to information leaks by collecting information stored in the memory of the phones on which the applications are installed and sharing information about the user, including location, pictures, and personal details on the Internet.”
