Overnight, IAF aircraft targeted a rocket launching site in the northern Gaza Strip and a terror tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip.

Direct hits were confirmed.

The targeting of these sites is in direct response to the rockets fired at Israel. A Grad rocket was fired at Be’er Sheva earlier today and was successfully thwarted by the Iron Dome active missile defense system.

During the recent escalation in the Gaza Strip, terrorists launched over 200 rockets at communities in southern Israel, including the cities of Be’er Sheva, Ashdod, Ashkelon, and more adding up to 1,000,000 people.

The Iron Dome anti-missile defense system has successfully intercepted 56 Grad rockets out of 73 directed at densely populated regions. The system’s exceptionally high success rate has been praised by Defense Minister, Ehud Barak as well as by IAF commander.

In response the IAF targeted several terror activity sites and terrorists preparing to launch rockets, thwarting additional attacks. As a result 26 Palestinians were killed 22 of which were unquestionably involved in terror activity against Israel. Chief the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz expressed his deep regret over the deaths of the four uninvolved civilians and explained that our enemies operate from within residential areas, He assured that IDF (Zahal) does everything possible to targets only those responsible for the rocket fire.

The IDF (Zahal) is prepared to defend the residents of Israel and will respond with strength and determination against any attempt to execute terrorist attacks. Hamas uses other terror organizations to carry out terror attacks against the State of Israel and will bear the consequences of these actions in any future operation embarked upon by the IDF (Zahal) in order to eliminate the terror threat and restore the relative calm to the area.
