In a joint IAF and Israel Security Agency operation, the IAF targeted seven terror-related sites in the Gaza Strip on Monday night (Dec. 20). These included three Hamas-operated tunnels in the northern Gaza Strip and an additional Hamas-operated tunnel, a smuggling tunnel, a weapon-manufacturing facility and a terror activity center in the southern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were identified on all targets.

The purpose of Hamas-operated tunnels is to infiltrate into Israel and execute terror attacks against IDF (Zahal) soldiers and Israeli civilians.

Targeting these terror-related sites came in response to rockets being fired at Israel’s southern communities over the past wee. On Tuesday (Dec. 21), nine militarily-used projectiles were launched from the Gaza Strip and landed in the Eshkol Regional Council and near the Karni Crossing. In total, thirteen projectiles fired from the Gaza Strip have landed in Israeli territory this week.

Since the beginning of 2010, over 200 Grad missiles, Qassam rockets and mortar shells have been fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory.

The IDF (Zahal) holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it. The IDF (Zahal) will also continue to respond harshly to any attempt to use terror against the State of Israel.
