Israel Navy Commander, Gen. Ram Rothberg, emphasized the importance and the role of women. He explained that “all female and male soldiers serve as the foundation and force of the Israeli Navy.”

Elaborating on the positions available for females, Gen. Rothberg said, “The Navy drafts women for a variety of positions, including combat sailors, simulation instructors, intelligence positions, and combat soldiers in the Special Forces ‘Snapir’ unit responsible for on-deck security and secret missions, composing an essential and important part of the Navy. Many high-ranking positions are also held by women.”

He concluded, “The combined service enables growth, unity and optimal use of our resources.”

The IDF (Zahal) is a professional organization that considers equality a leading ethic and incorporates women in almost every mission and encourages female soldiers to serve in almost every position.

The State of Israel is the only country in the world that requires women to serve in the military. This obligation supports the IDF (Zahal) as the nation’s army that includes the entire society to contribute to the security of the country.

The IDF (Zahal) continues to work on incorporating women while maintaining a secure and professional environment.

Almost all IDF (Zahal) positions are available for females including a variety of combat, commanding, intelligence, and instruction positions. The IDF (Zahal)’s emphasis on women’s rights sets it apart as an equal opportunity world where women are challenged to make the most of their service in both combat and non-combat roles.
