Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony for the Naval Captain’s Course which was held Wednesday evening (Aug. 11) in the Haifa Naval base. While addressing the crowd, he stressed that the Israel Naval Corps will serve as a maritime shield stopping flotillas intending to travel to the Gaza Strip in the coming months. “We find ourselves in times where the Mediterranean Sea and its shores are more agitated than usual and we are experiencing de-legitimization attempts by our enemies”, he said.
“Parallel to your training, academic qualification and studies, there were some among your sons who took an active part in a series of military operations, including the interception of the Turkish protest flotilla which made its way towards the shores of the Gaza Strip, and this interception was executed in an admirable manner”, he said to the graduates’ parents.
According to him, “These were the most complex test known by the Naval Corps in recent years. These operations and missions were so important for the IDF (Zahal) and the entire State of Israel. They prove to us beyond any doubt that there are none better suited to take this great responsibility which will now be placed on your shoulders.”
“Thanks to them, we know that the next flotillas which will attempt to break our borders and the weapons ships which seek to arm terrorist organizations will be stopped by the maritime defensive shield of the State of Israel and its Navy”, Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi said.
