The Arava Regional Brigade welcomed Col. Tal Carmel as its new commander in a ceremony held yesterday (Wednesday, December 26), as it bid farewell to its first commander, Col. Roei Be’eri. There, GOC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Tal Russo, Commander of the Edom Formation Brig. Gen. Nadav Padan, and the incoming and outgoing commanders of the Arava Brigade gave speeches discussing the Brigade’s past, present, and future.
“The Brigade has come an extraordinarily long way under Roei’s command,” said GOC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Tal Russo. “The amazing thing in this sector is the relationship between the military and the rest of the defense establishment. Turning to the incoming commander, he said, “You have much more to do in building the Brigade, and you will know how to do it. There is no doubt that the Brigade will know how to overcome every challenge.”
Commander of the Edom Formation Brig. Gen. Nadav Padan discussed the events of the past year and their influence on the Edom Formation, to which the Arava Regional Brigade belongs. “This year was a year of turns and challenges, the Arab Spring that redesigned the structure of states and regimes surrounding us, and the increasing challenges of terror,” he said. “These events changed the military preparedness in the sector and especially influenced the Edom Formation.”
Col. Be’eri, who has commanded the Arava Regional Brigade since its establishment, emphasized the Brigade’s progress and the challenges it still faces. “This year, we have come a long way, completing much successful activity in all realms,” he said at the ceremony. “Many challenges stand before the Brigade, the enemy does not wait, and we must prepare for all possible scenarios. I believe that the good, strong basis that the Brigade has formed is what will enable the continuation of the building and deepening of the Brigade’s hold on the sector, while providing the optimal solution to the security challenges facing us.”
Col. Be’eri will now command the new Eilat Regional Brigade, following his installation in a separate ceremony held yesterday.
“We are an operational body that lives in an operational environment that demands a great deal of us, and we will meet high standards in every mission required of us,” said incoming commander Col. Carmel. “Soldiers and commanders, before you stands the challenge of continuing and protecting the communities and the residents of the sector, continuing to optimize our operational effectiveness.”
