Dozens of pilots graduated from the IAF’s pilots’ course in a ceremony held yesterday (Tuesday, June 26) at the Hatzerim Airbase. The new pilots received the ranks of captain and lieutenant.
Hatzerim base commander Brig. Gen. Ziv, commander of the Flight Academy Col. Shaul, and friends and families of IAF soldiers attended at the ceremony.
Brig. Gen. Ziv addressed the new pilots, saying, “We expect from you, first and foremost, to be ethical and moral people. From today on, you are combat soldiers. Together, we will bravely defend the State of Israel. I am proud of you, and I trust you. Spread your wings, fly, and return in peace.”
Each of the pilots has completed three years of intensive physical, tactical, and academic training – including flight training, officers’ training, and an academic degree from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
The new pilots will receive their wings pin – the insignia symbolizing their successful completion of the training course – in a ceremony to be held tomorrow, which President Shimon Peres, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, and IAF chief Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel will attend.
