As of this afternoon Palestinians prisoners have been causing disturbances in the Megido Prison.
The disturbances began on Independence Day, when the prisoners held a protest march, which was stopped by the commander of the military prison. The prisoners also held a hunger strike as part of the protest.
As said, beginning this afternoon the prisoners began their protest within the prison and refused to disperse inspite of orders by the commanders of the prison. The prisoners began to throw objects at the military policemen in the prison and began burning their tents. Fire trucks were sent to put the fire, as well as IDF forces.
To calm the situation and end the prisoner disturbances, Military Police forces used tear gas and subsequently the riots ended. After negotiations with the prisoners the situation calmed and returned to normal.
During the event two Military Police soldiers were lightly wounded. Three prisoners were also wounded and were treated on the spot. Chief Military Police Officer, Brig.-Gen. Yoram Tzahor, noted the quick professional performance of the Military Police soldiers during the event.
