Rocket fire launched from the Gaza Strip hit a southern Israeli community on Wednesday (July 13), the Eshkol Regional Council, home to approximately 10,000 residents. Rockets were also launched at southern Israeli communities on Tuesday (July 12).

As a response to rocket fire from the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the Israeli Air Force targeted two weapon-manufacturing sites in the northern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed.

According to the Israel Security Agency (ISA), the month of June, 2011, saw an overall decrease in number of terror attacks with 47 attacks compared to 72 in May and 101 in April. Attacks from the Gaza Strip in June, however, slightly increased from May with June seeing five attacks and May seeing three.

The IDF (Zahal) will not allow the southern communities of Israel to continue living under constant threat, and will continue to respond determinately to any terror attempt against the citizens of Israel. The IDF (Zahal) holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip.
