Last Thursday (February 23), IDF (Zahal) soldiers performing a routine patrol identified suspicious activity along the Israel-Egypt border.
Following an attempt to apprehend and arrest the suspect, who managed to escape, a search in the area was conducted and a bag containing a large explosive device was discovered. The device was detonated in a controlled manner.

This was the second attempt to smuggle an explosive device into Israel in the past week.

A previous attempt was thwarted during a joint IDF (Zahal)-Israel Police activity on Monday (February 20). This type of terror activity is directed by terror organizations from the Gaza Strip, who use criminal smuggling routes in the Sinai Peninsula and into Israel.
