Several cases of the rubella disease were discovered in the Medical Corps training base in central Israel. 14 soldiers in the base were diagnosed with the disease and relieved from duty until their recovery. Rubella is a viral disease characterized by a fever, swollen lymph glands and a skin rash. The disease is only dangerous for women in the first trimester of pregnancy, when there is danger to the fetus. The soldiers were born in the years 80 – 82 and were not vaccinated as children. The soldiers of the base will be vaccinated against the disease and a message has been given to the families of the soldiers encouraging pregnant women near them to see their attending doctors to be tested for the disease The Medical Corps increased the alertness of the doctors regarding the subject and continues initiated action to stop the outbreak of the disease.
