This afternoon, shots were fired from within Lebanon toward an IDF patrol in the western sector of the border between Israel and Lebanon. The soldiers on patrol returned fire toward the sources. There are no IDF casualties. The IDF Spokesperson notes that since the IDF pullout from Lebanon, the IDF adheres to the rules for opening fire, and refrains from shooting into Lebanese territory. The IDF has taken the necessary measures relevant to this incident and has also filed a formal complaint to UNIFIL. This is a very serious incident that indicates once more to the lack of control by the Lebanese government over events along the border with Israel, and its helplessness against the terror and terrorist activity emerging from its territory.
