The new academic year for schools and kindergartens in the West Bank and Gaza Strip started as planned with a high attendance by both teachers and students. However, due to the security conditions, the school year did not begin in the city of Jenin and in the H2 territory in Hebron.

IDF Officers at the Civilian Administration in the West Bank and in the DCO in Nablus were reinforced at roadblocks and in sensitive areas. This reinforcement prevented unnecessary friction and allowed free passage of students and teachers from the towns and villages to schools and back.

Just as in most areas of the West Bank, the first day of school also went as planned in the Gaza Strip. According to reports there was a 90% attendance by both the teachers and the students. Coordination between Israeli officials in the territories and the Palestinian Education Departments was maintained throughout the day.
