The Operations Directorate considers the Military Home Front Defense Week, which was held last week together with the Turning Point 3 exercise, a wide success. IDF (Zahal) soldiers were requested, as the rest of the citizens of Israel, to enter protected areas upon hearing a siren on Tuesday morning (June 2nd), and the cooperation of the soldiers was excellent.
During the exercise, all IDF (Zahal) soldiers were in protected areas for ten minutes, even the Chief of the General Staff took part in the exercise. The sound of the sirens on IDF (Zahal) bases and the necessary time to reach the protected areas were also tested during the Defense Week.
Unlike civilians of the State of Israel, there are IDF (Zahal) soldiers located in critical positions who have to continue working also facing a possible missile assault, and that topic stood at the center of the Defense Week. The commanders of the different IDF (Zahal) units had to respond to those soldiers who are unable to leave their posts in an emergency situation, and the Operations Directorate is continuing to deal with this issue.
“The exercise was very successful. The level of readiness, the cooperation of the units, the involvement of the commanders and the extent of the participation were impressive,” says Lt. Col. Ami Weinberg, head of the Defense Department in the Operations Directorate. “The exercise we carried out deepened the IDF (Zahal)’s attention to defense in emergency situations.”
