The report of the Vinograd Commission appointed by the Chief of the IDF General Staff to investigate the issue of the identification and burial of the body parts of the naval commando unit soldiers, was presented this evening (13 February) to the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz. The committee was appointed in August 1999. The Chief of Staff said that with the completion of the Commission’s work, the IDF has ended the investigation of the painful episode. The Chief of Staff expressed once again his sorrow at the anguish caused to the families. Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz said that the IDF will begin staff work to implement the Commission’s recommendations in order to prevent the reoccurrence of such serious incidents in the future. The Chief of Staff thanked retired judge, Dr. Eliyahu Vinograd and the members of the Commission; Professor Yonatan Halevi and Brig. Gen. (retired) Giora Zorea. The report was handed over to the bereaved families this evening for reading.
