The Turkish organization IHH, which played a central role in May’s flotilla to Gaza, continues to lead its campaign to incite hatred against Israel both in Turkey and abroad, reported the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC) on Thursday (Dec. 30). According to the report, IHH spokespeople have been using their heroic myth of the Mavi Marmara in the campaign and advocating for every Palestinian demand, including that of the return of Palestinians to “Jaffa, Tel Aviv and Haifa.”
According to the ITIC, IHH leader Blent Yildirim continues to delegitimize Israel by making use of anti-Semitic motifs. For example, he recently argued that “the Zionists” control the United States and world media. He accused Israel again of having perpetrated a massacre on the Marmara’s passengers and claimed that the aim behind the interception of the ship was to take over oil and gas resources in the Mediterranean Sea (and was executed where Israel wants to produce underwater gas) and advocated the assistance the IHH provides Hamas.
The IHH’s extreme ideology was recently expressed in three of their events. In the final week of 2010, the IHH held a reception for the Mavi Marmara at the port of Istanbul, which thousands of people including the families of the nine Turkish activists shot dead on the ship attended as well as representatives from various countries including Mahmad Zualha, a Hamas activist in Great Britain responsible for organizing flotillas. No senior member of the Turkish Government attended the ceremony. The attendees chanted “death to Israel.”
In addition, the organization held a reception ceremony for an Asian convoy touring several Turkish towns that did not ultimately reach Istanbul. The convoy’s members were welcomed by senior members of the IHH organization, its voyage marked by demonstrations of hatred toward Israel. The convoy did not receive extensive media coverage in Turkey.
In addition, an inauguration ceremony was held marking the construction of a residential building sponsored by IHH in the town of Jabalia, during which an IHH representative expressed his hope for the return of Palestinians to Jaffa, Tel Aviv and Haifa.
