A joint action of the unit for combating pharmaceutical crime in the Ministry of Health, the customs Yasam and the Israel Police, anabolic steroids – tens of thousands of pills, injections and in powder form, were seized from two homes in central Israel. The steroids are used illegally for body building.
Part of the haul included hundreds of testosterone injections and tens of thousands of methandrostenolone tablets.
Anabolic steroids are prohibited by the Ministry of Health for use and marketing in body building and sports; use may induce severe side effects, which include renal and liver diseases, damage to liver functions leasing to jaundice, liver failure, skin diseases including acne and hair loss, behavior problems including the risk of psychotic paranoid disorders, manic depression, depression and aggression. This activity, which was a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the customs authorities, was carried out following a tip-off and surveillance.
