The Yearly Vacation Bill (amendment No. 12) (adding elective vacation days), 2013 by MK Haim Katz (Likud Yisrael Beiteinu), will allow Samaritans to dedicate their mandatory vacation days to holidays that the Samaritans celebrate.

During the Labor, Welfare and Health committee discussions preparing the bill, Committee Chair Katz said ”The time has come to right a wrong. This year, which is a leap year, the Samaritans will be celebrating their holidays 30 days after the Jews. The bill allows for them to go on vacation for two days a year without their employer being able to object.”

MK Nissim Zeev asked why the 9th of the month of Av and Purim were defined as voluntary days off and not as holidays.

14 MKs supported the bills first reading with none objecting or abstaining. The bill will go back to committee to prepare it for its second and third readings.
