The Committee on Dietary supplements, manufacturers and importers of Dietary supplements, discussed the use of substances containing the “Black Cohosh” substance. This was done following a report from the health authorities in England, which reported a spate of cases of liver failures while using products containing the herb. No such thing has been reported in Israel.
The committee recommends that materials containing the Black Cohosh herb shall be labeled with the following warning: “The Black Cohosh herb is suspected of being harmful to the liver in rare cases. Consult a physician and do not use if you are aware of any sensitivity, liver malfunction or other liver function impairments”.
The companies have begun the labeling process, which should be concluded by February 1, 2013.
