MK Carmel Shama Hacohen returned to the Knesset on Tuesday immediately after it was announced that parliament elected Reuven Rivlin as Israel`s next president. In accordance with the law, Rivlin`s term as an MK expired as soon as he was elected president.
Shama-Hacohen, 41, served in the 18th Knesset from 2009 to 2013 on behalf of Likud. During this time he served as chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee and deputy Knesset speaker. He was placed 32nd on the Likud-Yisrael Beitenu list that won 31 seats in the 2013 election.
Shama-Hacohen is an attorney. In the past served as a member of the Ramat Gan City Council.
