The foreign affairs division: A delegation under the auspices of MK Reuven Rivlin (Likud Beitenu), with MK Yitzhak Vaknin and MK Ronen Hoffman will leave tonight for a series of meetings with the heads of the parties and the Presidency of the Council of Europe. This in order to overturn the decision of the Committee on the Rights of the Child in the Council, which decide three months ago to recommend to European countries to legislate laws to limit the carrying out of the custom.
The goal of the MKs is to spur a new conversation on the matter and to create an alternative decision which will uproot the heart of the previous decision. Additionally, the delegation will give a document to the heads of the parties of the European Council with a hundred signatures of MPs from throughout Europe which demands for a new debate on the matter.
MK Rivlin: ”This is an illegitimate decision, whose nullification is the joint goal of Jews and Muslims and everyone who believes in freedom of religion and conscious. There is a real suspicion that this decision will trickle to other European Parliaments and will eventually also touch other religious matters, like kosher slaughter. Our goal is to clarify to the Europeans that while dealing with policy is legitimate, dealing with matters of Judaism and freedom of religion is not.”
