Supreme Court Judge Salim Joubran, the chairman of the Central Election Committee, told Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein on Monday that the committee is hoping for a minimal amount of malfunctions in the lead-up to the March 17 general elections.
The Election Committee is made up of Knesset members or delegates representing one of the parliamentary factions and is chaired by a Supreme Court Judge.
The Committee is in charge of registering lists running for the Knesset, campaign financing, election logistics, tallying results, and dealing with challenges to the results.
Joubran updated Edelstein on the committee`s work, which is being conducted at the Knesset and at 19 regional subcommittees around the country. Knesset Director-General Ronen Plot and Central Election Committee Director Orly Ades also took part in the meeting.
The judge thanked the Knesset`s speaker and director general for their assistance and said: ”We all hope that the conduct throughout the election campaign will be orderly and proper. We hope there will be as few malfunctions as possible, and beginning tomorrow I will be touring the regional subcommittees to check that everything is running smoothly. We will all benefit if everything will work properly. ”
Knesset Speaker Edelstein noted that while the committee`s work is technical in nature, ”it is also essential.”
Following the meeting, Joubran and Edelstein visited the Central Election Committee`s offices in the Knesset building.
