Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein welcomed Francois Hollande`s decision to address the Knesset next week. During his visit to Israel, the French president will be accompanied by his partner and a delegation of ministers, parliament members, some 50 business people and dozens of journalists.
Hollande is due to arrive at the Knesset on Monday, November 18, at 17:30. An official ceremony will be held in honor of the French leader, who will sign the Knesset guestbook at Chagall Hall.
Following the ceremony, Hollande will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Opposition leader Shelly Yachimovich at the Knesset speaker`s chambers.
A special plenum session will be held at 17:45, during which Speaker Edelstein, PM Netanyahu, MK Yachimovich and President Hollande will speak.
”It is a great honor for the Israeli Knesset to host the president of France, a country that is among Israel`s close friends,” Speaker Edelstein said.
”I am pleased and proud that Hollande has decided to honor the Knesset and the members of Knesset and speak to the people of Israel from the podium of the Knesset – the bastion of Israel`s democracy – and I believe the visit will be significant for both countries,” he added.
