Georgian President Giorgi Margelashvili visited the Knesset on Tuesday and held a work meeting with Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein.

Margelashvili was greeted at the Israeli parliament by an honor guard and later signed the Knesset`s guestbook in Chagall State Hall.

Edelstein told his guest: ”I will not surprise anyone by saying that the relations between our countries serve as a great example of cooperation between states. We also have great parliamentary cooperation and an active friendship group headed by MK Yehiel (Hilik) Bar (Zionist Camp), who is present here. The Israeli-Georgian community is an example of a community that has planted its roots in Israel while remaining respectful of the tradition and culture of Georgia, from which they came.”

The Georgian president mentioned that he was accompanied by six Georgian MPs from the coalition and opposition, and said ”We were all touched by the warm welcome and the visit in such an impressive country as Israel, with a history of thousands of years. We would be very happy to further develop the relations between our countries – development that is very important to us in the fields of security, agriculture, business and more.”
