On Sunday the installation of a solar field on the Knesset building`s rooftops began. Once completed, the field will make the Knesset the greenest parliament in the world.

The 4,650 square-meter solar field will consist of 1,406 photovoltaic panels, which arrived in Israel over the weekend, and will provide 450 kilowatts of energy. Along with additional energy-saving initiatives that have been launched in 2014, the solar array is expected to reduce the Knesset`s energy consumption by a third, by the end of 2015.

Knesset Director-General Ronen Plot said, ”The dream of Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, who envisioned the `Green Knesset` project, is being realized before our eyes. We, the Knesset employees, are very proud to realize the Speaker`s vision and turn the Knesset into the greenest parliament in the world.”
