The Knesset on Thursday hosted some 450 children from the rocket-plagued south. While at the Knesset the children, who were accompanied by family members, were given a tour of the parliament building, watched a magic show and enjoyed a performance by Roni Dalumi, a past winner of the reality television singing competition ”Kichav Nolad, the Israeli version of American Idol. All of the performers volunteered.

The children who arrived at the Knesset hail from the following communities: Ze`elim, Kfar Aza, Gevim, Erez, Dorot, Ofakim, Ashdod, Beer Sheba and Sderot.

Knesset Director-General Ronen Plot, who headed the operation to bring the families from the south to the Knesset, greeted the children: ”I am very happy to see you, and I thank you for coming here, to the Knesset. We hope that the fighting will end soon and that calm will be restored.”

Plot explained that Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein could not greet them himself because he was meeting with residents of the south. ”The Knesset speaker asked me to welcome you and thank you for visiting us,” he said.

Last week Knesset Speaker Edelstein instructed Director-General Plot to invite children from the south to the Knesset in order to give them some relief from the constant rocket fire emanating from the Gaza Strip. During the week, hundreds of children from the south visited the Knesset and took part in various activities.
