The Internal Affairs and Environment Committee approved on Wednesday a directive issued by the interior minister which takes 22.8 dunams (5.63 acres) of land away from the Tzur National Park and designates them as an employment zone in the city of Tayibe.

The land was mistakenly declared a part of the park during its dedication in 2003, despite the fact that in 1983 the land was approved as an employment zone in Tayibe`s city plan.

MK Ahmad Tibi, one of those who initiated the return of the land to Tayibe, said 80 families live and work on it. He called the committee`s decision ”historic.”
