In a debate held in the plenum on Wednesday on the increase in terror in the West Bank:
Knesset Member Moshe Feiglin (Likud Yisrael Beitenu) warned in regard to not being able to stop terror and protect the citizens of Israel. According to him this helplessness is sourced with lack of motion of justice – ”Whoever turns his back on the sanctity of the roots and gives sovereignty to the Arab enemy finds himself incapable of dealing with him.” He also added that our weakness with internal security shows the future in regard to the Iranian threat.
Knesset Member Nissim Zeev (Shas) talked about the wild driving, throwing Molotov bottles and hurting the residents. He said there is nowhere else in the world where soldiers stand helpless in front of the enemy and referred to the asymmetric fighting against non-army factors. ”We are incapable of dealing with that terror and we show weakness that gives the enemy an approval to continue the terroristic acts against us.”
Knesset Member Israel Eichler (United Torah Judaism) said the problem was not the weakening of the army and its ability to deter. According to him, the hatred and separation in the Israeli society give the Palestinians hope that the state of Israel will fall apart one day, which increases the terroristic acts toward us. ”Whoever wants to take care of the problem of terror at the West Bank needs to strengthen the unity of the people of Israel.
Knesset Member Yoni Chetboun (HaBayit HaYehudi) said that because there is no law of Israeli sovereignty in these places the judicial activism becomes more and more active, with no limits. He called to stopping that policy in order to give the security forces the most power in the area and improve their ability to react to threats.
Knesset Member Orit Strock (HaBayit HaYehudi) talked about the increase of terror in the roads in the West Bank and blamed the government for giving up to it and to the Palestinian prisoners. According to her, the state should be decisive, insistent and assertive when facing those elements.
Deputy Minister of Defense, Danny Danon (Likud Yisrael Beitenu) responded to the Knesset Members and talked about a rise in the number of those events and the hurt soldiers. He gave his full support to the IDF in preventing those elements and in response to Knesset Member Chetboun he added that the job of the IDF and security forces is to respond to those events with complete support of the Knesset. According to Danon, the most important thing is support and he said: ”We must all support the forces of security fully while they stand in front of the enemies before us.”
