The Knesset plenum approved Monday night the government`s motion to appoint MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) Internal Security Minister as well as Minister of Strategic Affairs and Hasbara (public diplomacy).
Following the 58-55 vote, Erdan pledged his allegiance before the Knesset.
During the debate which preceded the vote, MK Zehava Galon (Meretz) said ”what we are witnessing here is an unacceptable farce. What repulsive conduct by the government, which seeks the public`s trust. The wrong people are in the wrong positions… what does this say about the prime minister, who wants to show the public that there is going to be a responsible and stable government here?”
MK Zouheir Bahloul (Zionist Camp) said: ”If this government is not a banana republic, I don`t know what is… Nearly 80 percent of the State`s budget goes to a number of parties, and they transfer [funds] to the few, as they see fit, and deny distributional justice from the citizens.”
MK Merav Michaeli said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ”made an effort to assign Likud people to ministries they wanted the least.”
