The Ministry of the Defense, The National Insurance Institute and the Knesset will participate in the Day of Remembrance for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism event at the Knesset on Sunday. The event will take place this year under the title ”The Human Tapestry” with the participation of Speaker of the Knesset Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, Minister of Defense Moshe Ya`alon, Minister of Welfare and Social Services Meir Cohen, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Gadi Eizenkot and Chief of Police, Commissioner Yohanan Danino and artists Shlomi Shabat, Rivka Zohar, Ruhama Raz, Nathan Goshen, Yuval Dayan, Liron Lev, Major Shai Abramson (the official IDF cantor), the Moran Choir and the IDF bands.
Hundreds of bereaved families will participate in the central national ceremony, ”Songs in Their Memory”, on the eve of Remembrance Day. The event is being produced by the Knesset, the Family and Commemoration branch of the Ministry of Defense and the branch for Victims of Terror in the National Insurance Institute, the agencies that work all year for the fallen and their families. This year, for the first time, the event will be held in Chagall Hall in the Knesset.
There will be no speeches at the event. The participants will simply recite poems and other readings from the stage. This year the event will also include a number of movies and particularly emotional songs and poems. Some of the bereaved families are speaking for the first time in the movies.
Amongst other things, the following peoples` story will be told:
• Tamir Nebuani, the first Druze in the Chief of Staff`s Reconnaissance Unit, who fell in a solo navigation drill in the cliffs of the Negev. His family in Julis has lost no less than five members of their family in the course of Israel`s conflicts and for the first time a movie will be made about them. At the end of the movie, at the event, Speaker Edelstein will invite the father of the family to the stage.
• The singer Ruhama Raz will speak about her sister who was killed in a terrorist attack on the 405 busline, and will sing the song ”Dreams of Yesterday”, the same song that the mother of two requested hours before her death. Similarly, in the movie, three orphaned brothers, who were left alone after both of their parents were killed in the attack, will speak about rehabilitating themselves to the point where each one of them is successful in his field.
• The parents of Tzachi Itah, who was the last soldier killed in Lebanon before the withdrawal, will watch a movie about the place of his death in Beaufort and on his comrades in his unit who were next to him when he was wounded. They will relive the event during which many of them were injured. At the end of the movie, his mother will deliver remarks.
• During the movie ”My Chidren”, the story of Dvir and Noy Anter, 12 and 13 respectively, who were killed in an attack on a hotel in Nairobi during a bar mitzvah trip.
The event will be broadcast live on the television`s Channel 1 and on the Knesset Channel (channel 99). It will also be broadcast live on the radio on Reshet Bet and Reshet Gimmel of Kol Israel, on Jerusalem Radio, FM 100, Galei Israel and also on Walla`s website, Nana 10, Arutz Sheva and the Knesset`s website. The event will be produced by Nohar Productions – Roni Aviram. It will take place on Sunday the 4th of May and will begin at 21:00 in the Knesset. Entrance is by invite only.
