May 4th was the last day for applications; elections for the role of state comptroller will take place on May 14th.
On May 3rd, the Knesset Speaker announced that ”three nominees are on the table for the position of state comptroller: President of the Office of Internal Auditors Shlomo Kaldron, Jerusalem District Court Judge Yosef Shapira, and Deputy-President of the Supreme Court, Eliezer Rivlin.
Shapira`s nomination was submitted with signatures from 64 Knesset Members, and Rivlin`s, with signatures from 11 MKs from Likud, Hadash, Ichud Leumi, Meretz and Labor. Kaldron`s nomination was approved by Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin after a consultation with Knesset Legal Advisor Eyal Yanon. Kaldron`s nomination included a number of signatures from MKs who also signed for Shapira; however, as Kaldron`s nomination came in first, it was approved.
The Knesset Speaker said that ”the elections for State Comptroller will be held as planned on May 14th.”
