Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today (Monday), 4.8.97, with European Union envoy Miguel Moratinos. Mr. Moratinos arrived from his meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Yasser Arafat, and passed on the Palestinians’ requests that the pressure on the PA and the steps which Israel is taking against it be eased.

Prime Minister Netanyahu told Mr. Moratinos that Israel is operating against terrorism and not against the Palestinian people, and that Israelis doing everything in its power to prevent terrorists from reaching Israeli cities, by means of the closure.

The Prime Minister said that the PA must fulfill its commitments to fight terrorism and the terrorist organizations’ infrastructure, and that Israelis taking various measures in order to pressure the PA into fulfilling these commitments.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said that, "Agreements are not one-sided, and they must be fulfilled by both sides, not just Israel."
