Eduardo Cunha, the new president of the Brazilian National Congress`s Chamber of Deputies, will hold his first official visit since entering office in Israel.

Cunha, who will be arriving Wednesday with a large delegation of Brazilian members of Congress, is scheduled to meet with Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, opposition leader MK Isaac Herzog and the head of the Israel-Brazil Parliamentary Friendship Group, MK Sharon Gal.

Ahead of the visit, Edelstein said Cunha was a ”true friend to Israel and an admired an influential leader in Brazil.” The Knesset speaker said he planned to thank Cunha for holding a special session in the Brazilian Congress to mark the 67th year of Israel`s independence.

”Despite the diplomatic disagreements, there is constant dialogue between [Israel and Brazil], and we will suggest that cooperation be expanded in numerous and diverse fields, such as fighting terror, technological developments, desalination, as well as cooperation between both countries` parliaments.”
