Recently, the incidence of whooping cough has risen worldwide, including Israel. The main reason for this is declining immunity with advancing age. Therefore, the Ministry of Health, like bodies and other countries around the world, recommends administering another dose of the whooping cough vaccine in adults. The vaccination is given in the framework of a booster dose of the triple vaccine for diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough. Therefore: The diphtheria, Tetanus and acellular whooping cough vaccine (adult dose) is recommended for all adults on a one time basis under the following circumstances:
- As a one time substitute for the diphtheria and tetanus vaccination that is recommended once every 10 years
- Vaccination after an injury
- Vaccination of pregnant women, or before pregnancy (including before IVF treatment), or after giving birth.
- Vaccination of healthcare workers and healthcare students.
Note that vaccination of pregnant women or of women shortly after giving birth is essential to protect the new mother, and especially the newborn baby until such time as the baby receives the series of required vaccinations at the Tipat Halav baby care center.
This vaccination has been submitted to the health basket by the Ministry of Health, and approval of it will be discussed in the framework of the Basket Committee. At the present time, it is only available against payment.
