According to the current law, the Committee to Select Judges is made up of 9 members: 3 members of the High Court (including the President), the Minister of Justice along with another minister, two members of Knesset and two representatives of the Bar Association. The Bill approved by the Constitution Law and Justice Committee would establish that at least four women would be on the committee, one from the government, the Knesset, the High Court and the Bar Association.

The Sponsor of the Bill, MK Aliza Lavie, said today in the committee that ”The bill falls in line with the law that I passed for the appropriate representation of women in the Judges Law. It`s important that when creating judges, that women be involved.” She added that soon she will submit similar legislation for the Committee to Select Qadis.
