After Joseph Shapiro was sworn in as the State Comptroller in the Knesset plenum, a toast ceremony was held in honor of new comptroller at the office Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin.

President Shimon Peres said: ”Bureaucracy cannot exist without review. The independence of review is of enormous importance. In Hebrew, the word “morning” and the word “review” come from the same exact root, meaning “light has come”.

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said: ”de-legitimization of the comptroller’s reports is never in order. The comptroller`s report is a life-saving report and should be treated as such ”.

The former State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss: ”I congratulate the incoming comptroller, especially after seeing his seriousness and sense of mission. I am grateful to Speaker of the Knesset for our joint and very fruitful labor over the years.

The short ceremony was also attended by Minister Gilad Erdan, former State Comptrollers judges Miriam Ben-Porat and Eliezer Goldberg, State Control Committee Chairman Uri Ariel, MKs Rachel Adato and Ahmed Tibi, and senior executives from State Comptroller`s Office and the Knesset’s adiministration.

The event was of course also attended by members of Joseph Shapiro’s family, his children and grandchildren.

Incoming auditor Joseph Shapiro thanked all those who congratulated him and concluded: ”Even when I was a judge, I was alone as someone who should avoid conflicts of interest and meet all the legal requirements. But now, my loneliness will be even greater. I`ve already noticed that people are afraid to tell me ”Come and talk,” said Joseph Shapiro for the amusement of those present.
