The Cabinet this morning unanimously approved a plan to promote the selection of the Dead Sea as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Regarding the campaign, to be led by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Tourism Ministry, it was decided to allocate NIS 8.75 million to promote the Dead Sea’s candidacy.

The Dead Sea is a joint Israel-Jordan-Palestinian Authority candidate and is one of 28 sites (including the Grand Canyon, the Galapagos Islands, the Amazon rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef) to have reached the finals of the New 7 Wonders of Nature Competition out of an initial pool of approximately 420 sites.

Approximately 1 billion people are expected to vote by the 11.11.11 deadline.  It is estimated that 300-400 million votes will be needed for the Dead Sea to be chosen.
