The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General (****) Martin E. Dempsey, arrived yesterday evening (October 28th, 2012) for his second visit in Israel, where he was hosted by the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Binyamin “Benny” Gantz.
General Dempsey has conducted work meetings with General Gantz, where they discussed aspects of military cooperation and shared security challenges. General Dempsey also met with the Israeli Minister of Defense, Mr. Ehud Barak, and will meet later today with the President of the State of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres.
During his visit to the Rabin (Kirya) Base on Monday morning, General Dempsey was greeted by an honor guard and both the Israeli and United States’ national anthems. Tomorrow he will also visit an Iron Dome battery, where he will assess cooperation progress, as manifested in Austere Challenge 12, a combined exercise which includes thousands of Israeli and American soldiers that is currently underway. The general will also visit an IAF base.

In addition, the Commander of the European Command, Admiral (****) James Stavridis will visit Israel today, October 29, 2012. The admiral will meet with the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, as well as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major General Yair Naveh. He will also visit an Austere Challenge 12 exercise site.
