The Chief of Defense Staff of the Italian Armed Forces, General Biagio Abrate, concluded his visit to Israel today, October 17, 2012. Gen. Abrate was hosted by the IDF (Zahal) Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz. This is General Abrate’s first visit to Israel in this position.
Gen. Abrate was received by an IDF (Zahal) honor guard, consisting of soldiers from the Ground, Air and Naval forces at Camp Rabin (Kirya), to the sounds of the Israeli and Italian national anthems.

During his visit, Gen. Abrate conducted a meeting with Lt. Gen. Gantz and participated in a panel with senior commanders of the General Staff presenting strategic and security matters. Furthermore, both sides discussed the continuation of military cooperation as well as mutual security challenges.
Gen. Abrate visited several sites across Israel, including southern Israel, Jerusalem’s Old City and the Yad VaShem Holocaust Memorial Museum, where he laid a wreath in memory of those who perished in the Holocaust.
