The terrorist attacked IDF forces with a pole, tried to steal a soldier’s weapon, and then attempted to strangle another soldier at the scene.
A preliminary IDF investigation concluded that a terrorist attacked Israeli soldiers Monday at the Allenby Bridge crossing on Israel’s border with Jordan. The terrorist charged forces with a metal pole while shouting “Allahu Akbar,” and then attempted to seize one soldier’s weapon.
Soldiers responded to the attack in accordance with standard procedures, firing at the terrorist’s lower extremities. The suspect then began to strangle a soldier, and the forces again resorted to using live fire, resulting in the terrorist’s death.
Although the IDF’s investigation is ongoing, its preliminary findings were extensive and included interviews with witnesses at the scene.
Monday’s incident is one of several recent terrorist attacks targeting IDF soldiers. On January 29, a Palestinian terrorist opened fire at soldier and Israeli civilians near the Israeli community of Ateret.
In November of last year, a terrorist stabbed Pvt. Eden Atias as he slept on an Israeli bus. Less than two months earlier, on September 21, a terrorist kidnapped and murdered Sergeant Tomer Hazan in Judea and Samaria. One day later, gunfire killed Sgt. Gabriel Koby as he performed routine guard duty in Hebron.
