Prime Minister Netanyahu today, said that he would – within two weeks – submit to the Cabinet a decision to increase the number of officers in the Israel Police, with an emphasis on the north and the Arab sector.

He also announced that in the framework of the law on equality in sharing the burden that will replace the Tal Law, the Government would act to increase the number of national service enlistees that will be directed to the Israel Police.

Prime Minister Netanyahu stressed that the Government is committed to continue the struggle against crime and severe violence, noted that in November 2009, his Government approved a national plan to reduce the excessive consumption of alcohol and the damage it causes among children and young people and added that there is a need to carry out additional steps in the framework of this plan.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said, "I give my full backing to Israel Police Inspector-General Yohanan Danino, the Israel Police and Public security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch in the difficult and essential struggle against crime.  The data presented here indicate success in the struggle against crime, but on the other hand we have witnessed painful human tragedies."
