On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the State of Israel, numerous cultural events, exhibitions, video projections and theatrical performances were held throughout Macedonia – in Ohrid, Bitola and Skopje – from 6-21 July 2015.
Events began in Ohrid with the Israeli Film Festival. On July 20, a photo exhibition entitled “An Israeli Eye on Macedonia, a Macedonian Eye on Israel” was opened at the Holocaust Memorial Center. Photographers Ljupco Blagoevski and Carrie Hart present panoramic views of the cultures of two countries seen through the eyes of the visitor. The marking of the anniversary concluded on July 21 at the Macedonian National Theater, with the staging of the play ‘Our Class’ by the Israeli National Theater.
Macedonian Culture Minister Kanceska-Milevska noted that the most beautiful sites of Macedonia and Israel have been caught through the lenses of the two talented masters of photography, reflecting symbiosis and diversity. She added that Ohrid and Jerusalem are cities that have an essential parallel as centers of religious spirituality.
Israeli Ambassador to Macedonia Dan Oryan as well as Macedonian Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska, Deputy Foreign Minister Dragana Kiprijanovska, and Skopje Mayor Koce Trajanovski attended the opening of the exhibition.
The activities were organized and supported by the Macedonian Foreign Ministry, Skopje Summer Festival, the Jewish community in Macedonia and the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
