Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met this morning (Monday), 18.10.04, with President Moshe Katsav, at the latter’s Jerusalem residence, ahead of the latter’s trip to Austria.

The Prime Minister said that he attributes great importance to the President’s visit, the first by an Israeli President to Austria.

Prime Minister Sharon emphasized that the Disengagement Plan will be submitted for Knesset approval on 25.10.04, according to the timetable approved by the Cabinet.

The Prime Minister added that we must avoid
dragging the people into elections when a diplomatic and economic plan is
being implemented.

Regarding his meeting last night with Yesha leaders, Prime Minister Sharon emphasized that he does not view the meeting as a failure and added that the responsibility for the future of the state does not belong to one group
among the public but to the entire people, and this mission is the responsibility of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister stressed that, “There is no connection between civil war and a referendum.  The worst thing would be to capitulate to threats of violence and to discuss refusal; this is very serious and these phenomena will be avoided.”
