Phantoms from the ‘Patishim’ Squadron attack targets at Saida, Syria. Four MiG-21s are scrambled to meet them, and in the ensuing dogfight, ‘First Jet’ Squadron interceptors shoot down two MiGs. Another air battle takes place on the same day in the southern Golan Heights, where 16 Syrian MiG-21s penetrate Israeli airspace, apparently intending to attack Israeli targets. IAF jets intercept eight MiGs. The Syrians send eight more MiGs as reinforcements. Three of these are shot down over Sheikh Maskin, 15 km. into Syrian territory.
