As agreed in the Camp David accords, Israel withdraws from part of the Sinai desert. The IAF evacuates airfields and other installations and hands the structures over to the Egyptians. The first phase of the withdrawal includes El Arish, Refidim, the control units at Umm El Marjum and Umm Hashiba, a base at Bir Tamada, the airstrips at Santa Katerina and A Tur, and a SAM battery at Nahal Yam. New bases are built in the Negev desert in place of these: Nevatim, Mashabei Sadeh and Uvda.
