Among all the Special Forces units in the IDF, the training time for the soldiers in the “Kingfisher” unit is the longest. At a special ceremony this week, dozens of new combat soldiers received their wings and joined the “Kingfisher” unit, the commando unit of the IAF.

Combat soldiers at last: after a year and eleven months, the arduous training of the soldiers of the “Kingfisher” unit came to an end and they joined the extraordinary elite unit. The ceremony was held in the presence of the Commander of the IAF, Major General Amir Eshel, who, at the end of the ceremony, even presented the graduates with the wing-pins of “Kingfisher” unit.

“The unit operates on the edge of imagination”
The new combat soldiers will be integrated into the unit and will perform a series of tasks and missions, upholding the unique destiny of the “Kingfisher” unit. “The wings that I just pinned to your uniforms are not worth much. The responsibilities and expectations associated are endless. This evening, you are joining a small, elite group of fighters that is unrivaled. You are worthy of being among the fighters of the commando unit of the IAF”, the Commander of the IAF, Major General Amir Eshel said to them. Far away from what meets the eye, the unit operates on the edge of imagination. In the last year, the unit operated in missions where silence is golden, both short and long distance. You will soon be doing things in which you discover the spirit of warfare, highly professional abilities, flexibility, and adaptability. Young Kingfishers, dare to succeed!”
