Today, trainees in the Talpiot course, the longest course in the IDF, were invited to the office of the Commander of the IAF for a special discussion with him. During the discussion, the young trainees and the Commander of the IAF discussed the challenges the IAF will have face. “The responsibility of the IAF, in times of quiet and fighting, grows from day to day”, said Commander of the IAF, Major General Amir Eshel. “The need to keep and preserve the aerial power is growing and it is based on a combination of people and technology. People like them are engines of growth for the force, we need to exploit the potential that lies in all of you, you have a good head, and you will succeed in reaching your threshold. We expect greatness from you, there is an enormous responsibility that has been placed on your shoulders”.

The trainees in the Talpiot program undergo unique training, at the end of which they are integrated into IDF technological units, research and development (R& D) and weapon systems divisions and the defense establishment. During their training, which is spread out over a period of three intense years, the trainees learn towards an academic degree and between study periods they undergo military training.

“IAF is the forefront in terms of technology”
During the second yearlong course, the trainees learn to recognize different corps, while the primary focus is the Air Force. This week they toured the airbases of the force and met with senior officers, heard about the history of the force, and its various duties, combat systems and technological processes that are made in it. “I chose to come to the IAF because this is the future”, explains S’, a trainee in a course who will serve in the IAF in the future. “The IAF is at the forefront in terms of technology and I feel that that is where I can find my abilities and contribute in the best possible way to the State.”
