The IDF spokesman asks to clarify – contrary to what is advertised on foreign media, IAF’s jets did not fire at a German vessel of the coast of Lebanon.

The incident commenced when two Israeli jets were deployed, responding to an unauthorized take off of a helicopter from a German vessel off the coast of Lebanon. No shots were fired, and the helicopter landed safely back on the vessel, outside of Israel’s territorial waters.
The Israeli Minister of Defence Peretz spoke with his German colleague, and discussed the importance of improving the communication and coordination between Israel and UNIFIL.
Ten days ago, Germany assumed command of the Naval UN forces posted off the coast of Lebanon, and deployed eight vessels and 1,000 marines. The force is in charge of preventing arms smuggling, and assist in peace-keeping efforts in the region.
